[Update: CFPUA has lifted a boil water advisory for Old Mill Road and surrounding areas, effective immediately Thursday, March 26. Water service in the area is back to normal operation.]
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Cape Fear Public Utility Authority issued an emergency boil water advisory Tuesday, March 24, that is affecting around 70 customers.
People living on Old Mill Road and surrounding areas may experience periods of low pressure or no water flow due to a break in a water main.
Crews were working to restore services earlier Tuesday for:
- 400 to 600 blocks of Old Mill Road
- All of Ramgate Road
- All of Lordship Lane
- All of Barrow Street
- All of Bramble Court
Due to periods of low or no pressure in the water distribution system, there is a potential increase for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.
Customers who don’t use bottled water are asked to boil water for 1 minute, allow to cool, and then consume for drinking, washing vegetables, cooking, feeding pets, etc. There is not need to boil water for bathing.
Before a the water advisory is lifted, CFPUA lab staff test the water to ensure it is safe to drink.
