WILMINGTON — The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority has scheduled a precautionary boil water advisory for its customers at Front and Ann streets this week

Starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, CFPUA crews will replace broken water valves in the area. Thus a precautionary boil advisory will affect around 80 customers at the following addresses:

  • 300 and 400 blocks of S. Front Street
  • 100 block of Ann Street
  • 100, 200, and 300 blocks of Nun Street
  • 300 and 400 blocks of S. 3rd Street
  • 300 and 400 blocks of S. 2nd Street

Temporary service interruption may take place in addition to low or no pressure at certain times. There is potential for bacteria entering the system due to back siphonage, which is why it’s advised to boil water if not using bottled products.

Tap water should be boiled for 1 minute ahead of consumption — teeth-brushing, ice-making, food preparation and produce washing, etc. Boiling isn’t necessary for bathing.

CFPUA lab staff will test the water ahead of lifting the advisory.
