The Agenda: Local government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, June 1

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda can be viewed here.

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in the Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. 

The Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at 805 S. Walker St. in Burgaw. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Novant Health update
  • Emergency service merger update
  • Resolution to participate in opioid settlements

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will host a regular meeting at 30 Government Center Drive at 3 p.m. Meetings can be live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Public hearing for financing contract for limited obligation bonds
  • Public hearing on the budget

The Leland Town Council will host a special meeting in Town Hall at 6 p.m. Meetings can be watched here. The agenda includes board applicant and committee interviews.

Tuesday, June 2

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Ordinance amending Wilmington City Code Section 8-5 on Criminal History Background Checks and/or Credit History Checks Required of Applicants and Employees (Second Reading). Read Port City Daily’s reporting on this topic here.
  • Ordinance making appropriations to the General Fund, Grant Projects, Financial Plans, Enterprise Fund, Debt Service Fund, Special Tax District, and Convention Center for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026

The New Hanover County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

The Southport Board of Aldermen will host a special meeting at the community building to hold a public hearing on the historic district overlay at 6 p.m. Meetings can be streamed here.

The Topsail Beach Parks and Recreation Board will meet at 10 a.m. in the Topsail Beach Town Hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Review budget
  • Consider pickleball court request

The Surf City Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Public hearing on the budget
  • Annexation, Topsail Property Management 
  • Zoning text amendment, short term rentals
  • Rezoning of 2103 N. New River Dr 
  • Site plan approval, Dandelion Commercial Hwy. 210 

The Brunswick County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Center of Applied Sciences and Technology, 1109 Old Ocean Highway. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

Wednesday, June 3

The Wilmington Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. in the Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 320 Military Cutoff Road: General District Rezoning of the property containing 6.69 acres +/- from O&I(CD), Office and Institutional (Conditional District) and RB, Regional Business to O&I, Office and Institutional.  

The North Topsail Beach Board of Alderman will meet at 11 a.m. in Town Hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Public hearing on the budget
  • Request for right-of-way encroachment to construct private beach access 
  • Authorization to apply for assistance to firefighters grant 

The Surf City Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee will meet at 3 p.m. in the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 1:30 p.m. in Heide Trask High School, 14328 NC HWY 210. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Topsail Middle School renovation firm selection

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Finance Committee will meet at 9 a.m. in the Jordan Conference Room, 235 Government Center Drive. An agenda was not posted by press. The Executive Committee meets at 10:30 a.m.; the agenda is available here.

Thursday, June 4
