WILMINGTON — The City of Wilmington is hosting a second community event to garner feedback on a park it’s bringing to Greenville Loop Road.

The city already held its inaugural input session last month at the MLK Center and is engaging in a year-long plan for Wilmingtonians to help design and activate the $9.75-million acquisition of 6325 Greenville Loop Road. It will host another community event at the school located near the park: Bradley Creek Elementary School, 6211 Greenville Loop Road on May 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The goal is to include a mix of preserved natural areas and planned amenities. But the city wants to know the community needs and environmental expectations of the long-term stewardship. As part of the May 26 event, the city will give a presentation at 6 p.m.

Development could occur in phases aligned with funding. Becky Hawke, Wilmington city manager, estimated it could cost another $10 million at least for added infrastructure. The end cost depends on design aesthetics and the extent to which they’re executed.

The project’s land-buy was funded by a combination of resources, specifically a $7.75 million grant from The Endowment and $1 million each from the city and the county.

The city has opened a survey here for anyone who cannot attend an in-person event.
