BRUNSWICK COUNTY — The Brunswick County Regional Water and Sewer, better known as H2GO, is asking customers to be mindful of water usage as drought conditions continue.
Despite Sunday’s rainfall, the area is still at a deficit this year, with April bringing increased irrigation demand, according to H2GO. As well a burn ban is in effect statewide due to the conditions.
H2GO says its water system has operated close to levels mandating a formal water conservation action, but to avoid as much it’s asking customers cut back. Voluntary steps include:
- Inspect irrigation systems for leaks, broken heads, or overspray
- Ensure irrigation operates only on days allowed under H2GO’s mandatory schedule
- Program irrigation systems to run during early morning hours (4 a.m. – 7 a.m.)
- Adjust run times based on weather conditions, soil moisture, and recent rainfall
- Limit watering to what is essential for plant survival
Should continued drought conditions persist and irrigation demand continues at current levels, H2GO will be required to implement its Water Shortage Response Plan. The plan enforces tiered restrictions, which could include odd/even irrigation schedules all the way to total bans, and even include penalties.
