
HAMPSTEAD — Emergency crews responded to a house fire in Hampstead on Wednesday afternoon. Occupants were safely able to evacuate before firefighters arrived and no injuries were reported
According to a release from the Pender County Fire Marshal Office, the fire broke out around 1:15 p.m. on a three-story residence on Estuary Drive. Pender EMS and Fire, New Hanover County Fire & Rescue, Pender County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pender County Fire Marshal’s Office responded.

Flames escalated from the attached two-car garage with crews engaging in fire-suppression efforts, in effect limiting spread to the remainder of the home. The fire is under control and remains under investigation by the Pender County Fire Marshal’s Office.
Smoke alarms in the home activated upon the fire starting.
“This incident highlights the critical importance of having properly installed and maintained smoke alarms in every residence,” the fire marshal’s office noted in a releaase.
