NEW HANOVER COUNTY — People were evacuated from the Wilmington International Airport Thursday evening after someone called in a bomb threat. New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has since done a sweep and cleared the facility of any danger.
The ILM terminal resumed operations as of 9:50 p.m.

“We appreciate our partners for their swift response and thank everyone for their patience and cooperation,” ILM officials posted to social media on Thursday evening.
The threat came in around 8:50 p.m. and caused some delays to travelers, as all flights were grounded. One person emailed Port City Daily while waiting in Newark.
“Heard pilots talking amongst themselves saying an active bomb threat in progress,” he wrote, explaining he had been delayed for hours. “First maintenance issues and now an apparent security threat in Wilmington.”
Law enforcement evacuated the terminal out of an abundance of caution so officers could assess the area and credibility of the call.
“Safety remains our number-one priority,” the sheriff’s office detailed.
