
WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department arrested a 31-year-old over the weekend and during the detainment found 24 bindles of heroin dropped in the vicinity.
The incident took place Saturday, Sept. 6, a bit after 6 p.m. in the 400 block of Evans Street. An officer initiated a traffic stop, when a man on a bicycle failed to yield to a stop sign.
At the intersection of Gaston Street, law enforcement approached the man, Richard Gibson, who began to reach toward his waistband. Officers detailed him and the bindles of heroin dropped from the suspect.
Another search revealed Gibson was allegedly carrying cocaine as well. He received a $30,000 bond after being charged for seven offenses, including:
- Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance
- Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Cocaine
- Felony Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance
- Felony Possession of Cocaine
- Littering/Dumping
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Resist, Delay, Obstruct Public Officers
Gibson remains in custody at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
