The Agenda: Meetings in local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, April 7

The New Hanover County Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Agreement to raise the guaranteed maximum price of Project Grace
  • Public hearing on Novant Health’s tax-exempt bonds financing request

Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at 805 S. Walker St. The agenda includes the appointment of Jimmy Tate to the board of commissioners and a public hearing on the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act. The meeting can be streamed here.

Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 3 p.m. at 30 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes approval of the EMS annual franchise agreement with St. James, a $203,000 utility contract agreement with Utilis Inc. for leak detection services, and a $203,055 contract with JMC Clearing & Mulching LLC for seasonal maintenance of wastewater dispersal sites. The Southport Board of Aldermen will meet at 9 a.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Capital Improvement Program
  • Southport Local Historic District Design Standards 

Tuesday, April 8

Burgaw Board of Commissioners meet at 4:30 p.m. at 108 E. Wilmington St. The agenda includes two public hearings:

  • For a preliminary plat for a major subdivision in an existing O&I Office and Institutional district for a 13-lot single-family residential development located on Worth Beverage Drive
  • Consideration of a conditional zoning request for a bar, cocktail lounge, and/or nightclub use in the B-1, Central Business District, located at 107 W. Courthouse Ave. The public is welcome to attend.

Carolina Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. at Council Chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. The agenda includes a public hearing to receive input on the FY25-26 budget process and consideration of adopting the 2025 bike and pedestrian plan. The meeting is streamed here.

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 U.S. Highway 117. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • New K-8 Naming
  • Proposal for Three-Tier Bell Schedule

The Oak Island Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in town hall, 4601 E. Oak Island Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Consideration of Amendments to Public Records Request Policy
  • Consideration of a Resolution Opposing HB 338 — Deannxation of Certain Properties in Oakwood Glen
  • Consideration of Transitioning from a Fire Fee to a Fire Tax

Wednesday, April 9

Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at 820 Anderson Blvd. The agenda includes discussion and consideration of public safety building (read PCD coverage here), discuss and consider contract with Otto parking vendor, and discussion of ROW parking at beach accesses. Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Board will meet at 9 a.m. at 230 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes a wastewater master plan amendment and a $1,000,075 contract with Lancaster Electric Company for the Wrightsville Beach SCADA Conversion and Generator Replacement project.

Thursday, April 10

The Wilmington Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 507 South 5th Avenue: Rear deck installation
  • 302 North 15th Street: New garage/Studio, move an existing fence on a corner lot, add gravel parking area, add screen door, landing and patio, and landscaping modification

Surf City Planning Board will meet at 4 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W Florence Way. An agenda was not posted by press.

N. Topsail Beach Board of Alderman will have a budget workshop meeting at 9 a.m. An agenda was not posted by press and all meetings that are recorded are posted here.

Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning will meet at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. The agenda includes:

  • Conditional zoning request to consider a bar/tavern in the Highway Business District (HB) at 1360 Bridge Barrier Road from applicant Secret Sand Castles Unlimited, LLC 
  • Text amendment to Article 3: Zoning and Article 7, definitions of the UDO to address water-oriented businesses and personal watercraft sales and rental. Meetings are streamed here.

Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen will meet in Council Chambers, 321 Causeway Dr. Meetings can be accessed via video here. The agenda includes:

  • Reorganization of the police department command and consideration of budget ordinance (2025) 659-B, creating a capital project fund
  • Funding a contract with Andrew Engineering for professional design and construction phase services for the street end headwall replacement project and authorizing the town manager to execute the contract. 

Navassa Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 338 Main St. An agenda was not posted by press.
