SURF CITY — To strengthen measures that keep swimmers safe in the height of tourist season, Surf City is expanding water safety stations.

The stations will be installed at 39 beach accesses along the 6 miles of Surf City coastline. Each features a rescue floatation can, to be used in emergencies until emergency personnel can arrive at the scene.

The station will include signs to educate beachgoers on maritime conditions, with a QR link to real-time beach updates from NOAA, NWS and Surf City Ocean Rescue staff. Stations also will include flags descriptions and appropriate emergency procedures.

The water stations are made possible from the Jack Helbig Memorial Foundation, Eagle Scout Charlie Medlin and Surf City Troop 777. The Surf City Fire Department, who will oversee installation.

Sponsorships for each station are also available, with more information here.
