BRUNSWICK COUNTY – Low humidity and windy conditions have resulted in an area burn ban.

Fires within 100 feet of any structure are prohibited in the unincorporated areas of Brunswick County city limits as of today. The ban does not apply to government-issued open burning permits, particularly from North Carolina Forest Service or by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. Residents within city limits should contact municipal offices for inquiries regarding the ban specific to that area.

According to the U.S. Weather Service for Wilmington, current and future weather conditions point to unfavorable conditions for open burning, thus leading to a high fire danger index in Brunswick County. The ban is in place until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20.

Anyone with questions should contact the Brunswick County Fire Marshal’s Office at 910-253-2021.
