WILMINGTON — One man is dead after he shot a family member on Jan. 12.
Alexey Torres was identified as the suspect. Per a report by the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded to a shooting in the 5200 block of Ringo Drive. Upon arrival, officers located a man with multiple gunshot wounds and officers learned he was a family member.
Torres fled the scene prior to officers arrival. Shortly after, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office deputies located him in a crashed vehicle on I-40. Torres then fled into the woods. SABLE UAS and K9 were dispatched in an attempt to locate the suspect, and while doing this, officers heard a single gunshot just north of their location, according to the WPD.
When law enforcement units located Torres, they discovered him seriously injured from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The victim in this case is expected to survive.
The WPD is reporting this shooting an isolated incident and no further details are available at this time.
