BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Duke Energy officials have released 2024’s quarterly schedule to test its sirens of the Brunswick Nuclear Power Plant.

The first will take place Wednesday, Jan. 10, for 3-minutes between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. No public action is required during the tests; they’re only to ensure operations are working.

The rest of the testing throughout the year will take place on April 10, July 10 and Oct. 9. All tests will be 5 to 30 seconds, with the exception of the October test, which is held at full volume for 3 minutes.

During the tests, regular programming on local broadcasting stations will not be interrupted. If it were an emergency, the Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages would air on radio and television stations, with important instructions disseminated to the public.
