Man arrested in connection to Castle Hayne Road shooting

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — An arrest has been made in a fatal Christmas shooting.

Law enforcement from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26-year-old Derrick Lamont Jones in connection to a shooting that took place at 2 a.m. on Dec. 26 on Castle Hayne Road. Larry Brown, 24, died from injuries after being transported to Novant NHRMC.

The shooting took place in the parking lot of Cape Fear Plaza, a strip mall at 1930 Castle Hayne Rd. Multiple businesses, such as The Tipsy Goat, 828 Church and RM Restaurant Supplies and Rentals, are located there. According to WECT, the incident took place in Anointed Creations Event Space, where a holiday party was being held for a little more than 200 people and ended at 2 a.m.
