A historic church and a hopping downtown nightclub are among the upcoming locations for two locally filmed television series.
Production on the first season of TNT’s “Good Behavior” and the History channel drama “Six” continues this week and next, with shoots scheduled at Westminster Presbyterian and in City Limits Saloon, among other spots around town.
Fitting for a show set in the Tarheel state, “Good Behavior” will take over Carolina BBQ, 1602 S. College Road, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday for interior and exterior scenes involving two principal actors and a hefty supporting cast of 150 extras, according to a permit filed with the City of Wilmington.
The show stars Michelle Dockery of “Downton Abbey,” and is based off Blake Crouch’s bestselling Letty Dobesh book series. Fresh out of prison, Dobesh (Dockery), a thief and con artist, finds herself entangled in a hired hitman’s plan to kill another man’s wife.
The Carolina BBQ shoot will not require any road closures but there may be some intermittent traffic control on Spirea Drive between College and 42nd Street. Thursday, the show moves to Roadway Inn, 5025 Market St., for another scene with two actors. Filming, which will run from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., will not interrupt traffic flow.
And next week, “Good Behavior” takes to the country-themed hot spot City Limits, 28 S. Front St., for three days of filming that again involves two leads and 80 background players. Pedestrians strolling downtown may be diverted away from the club, as well as the cast and crew’s base camp, the Second Street parking lot. The City Limits shoot will go from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. each day.
The show will also film along Dock Street between Front and Water between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7 and 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday, June 8 in a nearby alley and private lot. The outdoor scenes won’t require any closures or delays, although some pedestrian control may be needed at times.
Meanwhile, filming for “Six” resumes in Wilmington on June 7 in a shoot involving two characters who “encounter kids playing while driving to a friend’s house,” the permit states. The home is in the 1900 block of Pender Avenue and the car scene will be along S. 22 Street and Creecy Avenue.
Pender between Wrightsville Avenue and 21st Street will be closed during the house shots, and 22nd will be shut down between Creecy and Barnett to film actors driving, though the roadways will not be blocked off at the same time, and residents and their guests will have access within closures.
Five Wilmington police officers will help guide intermittent closures on 22nd Street between Wolcott Avenue and Creecy while filming is underway at the Pender home and on Metts between Borden Avenue and 21st Street for the car scenes.
Closures and delays will take place as needed between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m.
The following day, cast and crew will be at the 160-year-old Westminster Presbyterian, 500 Kenwood Ave., from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. to stage a funeral inside the sanctuary and along church grounds.
Drivers could see some intermittent closures along Kenwood between Westminster Avenue and Plaza Drive and again at Belvedere Drive between Westminster and Thomas Avenue, and the roadways may be completely blocked off if necessary.
Filming for “Six,” about a U.S. Navy SEALs team, got underway in Wilmington in mid-March, just after “Good Behavior” cameras began rolling.
“Six” was briefly put on hold in April, when lead Joe Manganiello announced he was leaving the show due to health complications. But soon after, A+E Networks announced his replacement, Walton Goggins from FX’s “Justified.”
Both shows are filming their eight-episode first seasons and are expected to wrap this summer.
