Wilmington man arrested for trying to kill his stepfather

Vincent Lawrence Reilly

A 35-year-old Wilmington man was arrested Thursday for allegedly trying to kill his stepfather with a knife.

Wilmington Police Department Spokesman Cpl. Kevin Smith said just before 7 p.m. Thursday, officers arrested Vincent Lawrence Reilly, 35, at 714 South 16th St. for an assault on his 50-year-old stepfather.

“During an argument between the two men, Reilly allegedly pulled a kitchen knife on his stepdad and stabbed him in his side, resulting in minor injuries—due primarily to the thick cotton hooded sweat jacket the victim was wearing,” Smith said.

Reilly admitted he was trying to kill his stepfather, Smith said.

Reilly has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is being held at the New Hanover County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
