The South Brunswick boys basketball team continued its impressive start to the season on Tuesday night as the Cougars road into Leland and ran away with a decisive 76-48 win against North Brunswick.

After an evenly played first quarter saw South Brunswick carry a 20-18 edge, Andrew Mosley lit the lamp with a pair of treys early in the second period to give the Cougars a double digit lead at the four-minute mark. Mosley had 14 points in the first half as South Brunswick grabbed a 36-23 cushion at the break.
Kareem Randolph helped set the tone early in the game after getting to the basket for a couple of easy buckets. Brandon Gonzales added five points off the bench, including a three-ball from beyond the arc, while Keyshawn Jenkins ran the point.

South Brunswick outscored North Brunswick 16-5 in the second quarter and 19-8 during the third period to put the game in check. Mosley finished with a game-high 19 points as 10 South Brunswick players found the scoring sheet. Randolph scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half. Gonzales and Jace KcKenney added eight points apiece.

The Cougars are 5-0 to start the season, with a home against West Bladen on Friday, Dec. 9. North Brunswick dropped to 1-3 heading into a three-game road swing beginning on Wednesday at Topsail.

New Hanover 78 Pender 62
New Hanover was pushed to overtime on Tuesday night, but the Wildcats dominated the extra session en route to a 78-62 win against Pender. Blake Smith led the way with 18 points.
New Hanover shot 45 percent from the field as Smith knocked down 6-of-12 attempts from long range. Four different players were in double figures for the Wildcats. Ramello Williams was 6-of-9 from the field with 14 points. Freddie Taylor had 11, while Hayden Edgar recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Edgar was 4-for-5 from the free throw line.
Topsail 51 Coastal Christian 42
Johnny Tartaglione hit all nine of his attempts from the free throw line and finished with a team-high 16 points to guide Topsail back to the .500 mark following a 51-42 win at home against Coastal Christian.
Trailing by two at the break, the Pirates put up 20 points over an eight-minute span in the third quarter thanks to a well-balanced scoring attack. Owen Ellis and Kodiak Dowling combined for 10 points in the frame, while Alec Baker knocked down a shot from long range during the decisive push to give Topsail a 40-33 advantage moving into the fourth quarter.
Tartaglione iced the contest with six free throws during the final period. Dowling also finished in double figures with 11 points. Ellis contributed eight points and Baker chipped in seven.
Topsail is now 2-2 overall. Tommy Murphy led Coastal Christian with 16 points as the Centurions dropped to 5-3 on the season.

Girls basketball
North Brunswick 56 South Brunswick 45
The Scorpions continued its early season success on Tuesday night with a 56-45 victory over a much improved South Brunswick team from one year ago. North Brunswick moved to 6-0 overall following the win.
Taylor Perkins helped the home team from Leland get out to a fast start with 10 points in the first quarter as the Scorpions took a 22-13 lead after eight minutes. Perkins finished with a game-high 16 points.

South Brunswick hung around thanks to a pair of 14 point scoring efforts from Kiara Grainger and Abigail Spivey, but turnovers proved costly for the Cougars in the setback.

North Brunswick carried a 34-22 advantage into the second half and Jada Bellamy scored seven points during the third period to help put the game away.
Bellamy went 5-of-8 from the charity stripe and finished with 13 points, while Aliah Johnson put in 12 points.

New Hanover 74 Pender 6
New Hanover put up 28 points in the first quarter and rolled to a 74-6 non-conference result against Pender. The Wildcats improved to 3-1.
Three different players finished in double figures. Ayonna Cotten led all scorers with 17 points. Amani Muhammad added 12, while Elizabeth Criner chipped in with 10 points. New Hanover was 12-of-18 from the free throw line. Cotten and Azariah Fields hit the games only two three-pointers.

Topsail 41 Coastal Christian 14
Dominique Bryant sank 13 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to lift Topsail, 41-14, at home over Coastal Christian.
Bryant was in double digits after the opening eight minutes as the Pirates sprinted to a 15-0 cushion. Topsail led 25-5 at the break. Payton Little added nine points in the win.
The Pirates moved to 4-2 overall. Coastal Christian dropped to 4-4 on the year.
