The Vikings moved to 8-0 in conference and maintain a three-game lead atop the division following a 3-1 victory over West Brunswick. Hoggard has now won 34 straight matches inside league play dating back to October 2013.
Ashley 3 New Hanover 2
(25-19, 18-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-9)
Ashley grabbed an impressive 3-2 comeback win over New Hanover at Brogden Hall on Tuesday night.
Katherine Boudreau led the Screaming Eagles attack with 13 kills and five aces. Taylor Butts finished with 19 digs and Haley France recorded five blocks at net.
Ashley trailed two games to one after capturing the opening set 25-19, but pulled out a four-point result to force a decisive fifth set with the contest tied at two games apiece.
The victory moves the Screaming Eagles to 2-6 in conference and 7-6 overall.
There’s now a log jam for second place in the division as New Hanover, Topsail and Laney are all within one game heading into the second half of conference play, with Hoggard atop the standings. The Wildcats fell to 4-3 in league play, 11-4 overall and saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.
Topsail 3 South Brunswick 2
(25-21, 21-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-10)
With their backs against the wall down two games to one, Topsail rallied to even the match and eventually outlasted South Brunswick 15-10 in the decisive fifth set to pull out a 3-2 win on Tuesday.
The Pirates trailed 3-6 in the final game before a 5-0 run put them in front. Madi Ford clinched the match with one of her eight kills to give Topsail sole possession of top seed in the 3A portion of the split Mideastern Conference.
Ford added seven blocks and 14 digs, while Marlee Marotta contributed in the defensive effort with 29 digs.
South Brunswick was in position to grab the result with a 22-20 advantage in set four, but Victoria Elder contributed a strong effort at net and Payton Shoenleber picked up 23 assists in the match to help claim a 25-23 advantage, evening the contest at two sets apiece.
Shoenleber also recorded 14 points and five kills. Elder finished with five blocks and Haley Woods swung a heavy hand with seven kills.
The Cougars were down after dropping the opening game 25-21, but used a big game from Caylen Folmar and Kim Williams to grab a 2-1 advantage before Topsail fought back.
Williams had a game-high 18 kills and served six aces. Caylen Folmar recorded 24 digs and Abby McEnaney finished with 32 assists for the Cougars.
South Brunswick fell to 2-6 in league play, while Topsail improved to 5-3 in the division with their third straight result.

North Brunswick 3 East Duplin 1
(25-16, 22-25, 25-7, 27-25)
North Brunswick dominated the third set and outlasted East Duplin 27-25 to clinch a 3-1 victory on Tuesday night.
Kaylee Scoggins and Valerie Renna combined for 31 kills, while Allah Johnson set the attack with 21 assists. Claire Longshore contributed in the passing game with 14 assists. Longshore and Renna each had four aces from the service line.
