Al’s Burger Shack will unlock its doors at 11 a.m. at 556 Leland Town Center Dr. The new location is in front of Lowe’s Home Improvement in Leland Town Center, near HotWorx, Eggs Up Grill and The Greeks.
The third location in the state, Al’s was announced in May this year, owned by UNC graduates Charlie Farris and Jason Kesler, both of whom own around 30 Jersey Mike’s franchises in North Carolina.
Kesler is a Carolina Beach native and a few years ago with Farris purchased the favorite Triangle burger joint from its founder Al Bowers. Currently, two locations exist on Franklin Street and in Southern Village in Chapel Hill.
In 2018, Al’s was voted “Best Burger in America” by TripAdvisor and has stacked up the same accolade by IndyWeek magazine. According to a press release, “Al’s team was particularly proud of the recent award for best family friendly restaurant in Orange County.”
Leland’s location will have the same menu, featuring fresh-pattied burgers and homemade toppings, including chili, bacon-onion jam, and pimiento cheese. There are also hot dogs sandwiches and fresh fries, made to order, and tots, with milkshakes and beer also available. Dippers made in house include Sriracha aioli, roasted-garlic aioli and its one-of-a-kind sweet Winnie sauce.
An outside patio has picnic tables and cornhole.
Though the restaurant is opening its doors Tuesday, a grand-opening celebration is planned for December, also to be a fundraiser.
Kesler told Port City Daily earlier in the spring he and his restaurateur partner were also looking to open an Al’s in Wilmington in the future. No word on movement made there yet.
