WILMINGTON — Returning to Wilmington to perform three decades worth of music, Chicago’s Wilco is set to take the stage at the intimate Greenfield Lake Amphitheater this summer.
The announcement was made for the July 13 performance, with tickets on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. However, presales take place Thursday at 10 a.m., available exclusively to Live Nation All Access members; no presale password will be necessary.
Members Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Glenn Kotche, Mikael Jorgensen, Nels Cline and Pat Sansone make up Wilco’s indie-rock sound, formed out of alternative country act Uncle Tupelo from the mid-’90s. To date, the group has released 13 studio albums, including its most successful release, “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot,” from 2001.
By 2004, Wilco received two Grammy Awards for its album “A Ghost is Born.” In 2022, the band won another Grammy for its reissue of “Foxtrot” as Best Historical Album.
Wilsco has performed and recorded with artists such as Billy Bragg, Neil Young, and others. Often coined the “American Radiohead,” the group is known for blending alternative rock and Americana with experimental feedback and atonal eruptions.
In September 2023, the group released the album, “Cousin,” followed by June 2024’s EP, “Hot Sun Cool Shroud.” Last year, lead swinger Tweedy also dropped a solo record, “Twilight Override.”
The group performed in Wilmington at Live Oak Bank Pavilion in downtown last year; this is the first time performing at GLA, which seats upward of 1,500 people only.
