SHALLOTTE — Plans are underway to bring a Cook Out and Hardee’s to Main Street in Shallotte.
Representatives of Cook Out purchased property off Main Street in May, just a quarter-mile off Highway 17 and adjacent to an existing Taco Bell.

A new Hardee’s is nearing completion, located on the site of Shallotte’s old skating rink on Main Street just before Highway 17. “One minute it was a slab, next minute, walls are up,” Shallotte’s Town Administrator, Mimi Gaither, said. “They are really moving.”
Shallotte’s Technical Review Committee recently approved plans for the new Cook Out, according to Gaither. Now, the town is just waiting for utility fees from the new restaurant. “There are some exciting growth opportunities here in Shallotte,” Gaither said.
Retail growth coming
Both restaurants and a car wash are being serviced with utilities as part of the town’s utility extension project, according to a state permit issued to the town this week.
These retail plans are just a few in the works for the growing southern Brunswick Couty town. Shallotte is in the midst of developing a riverwalk along the Shallotte River as part of a nearly $100 million private-public partnership with NSV Development. The project is set to bring 16 mixed-use buildings with 129 residential units; a 43,500 square foot hotel; retail, restaurant, office space, and more.
Another project, “Coastal Walk Marketplace,” is also in the works. Being developed adjacent to the Walmart Supercenter on Main Street, the 32-acre project includes plans for at least 13 commercial tenants, including a 50,000 square foot anchor store. Shallotte granted the development a conditional use permit earlier this year, Gaither said. According to Gaither, stormwater plans are still being worked out.
