SHALLOTTE — A large-scale commercial development is headed for Shallotte. At least 12 retail locations and a 50,000 square foot anchor store are planned for the intersection of Smith Avenue and Main Street in Shallotte.

The 32-acre project is adjacent to the Walmart Supercenter on Main Street.

A larger version of the project, first pursued in 2014, has since been scaled back, according to a wetland impact permit submitted last month. Now, the project will feature fewer out-parcels and a larger retail center.

According to the property’s owner, William Ratley, the project is being developed by RealityLink LLC. Because Ratley is simply selling the land and not developing the project, he was unable to offer more details on what is being planned. Nearly all the land where the project is being planned is currently zoned in Shallotte’s highway business district.

The site’s stormwater plan was accepted in January. It will tie into Shallotte’s wastewater management system, according to the permit application.

A marketing package prepared by RealityLink shows the company is pre-leasing retail locations for “Coastal Walk Marketplace.” A RealityLink representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
