WILMINGTON — Anyone interested in pursuing an education in geographic information systems can head to the Cape Fear Community College at the end of the month to learn more about the local program.
On Tuesday, March 31, at 6 p.m., a free information session will be held in the NB Building, room 135, on CFCC’s north campus. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with the GIS program instructor, see previous student projects and discuss the skills and technologies covered in the program.
The instructor will also answer questions about coursework, career opportunities, and industry trends.
CFCC’s Foundations of Geographic Information Systems certificate course is for beginners and professionals to learn mapping and spatial analysis skills. GIS refers to a computer system that captures, stores, analyzes, and displays data related to specific locations. Students will learn core GIS concepts, data types, and geospatial analysis techniques and get practical experience with ArcGIS tools.
The course is available through fully online, in-person, or hybrid options and will run as a 20-week, 170-hour comprehensive training program. Classes will meet twice a week in the evenings and include about 2.5 hours of asynchronous online work each week. The registration cost is $240.
