PENDER COUNTY — County residents are invited to share experiences, ideas, and concerns about flooding, wildfires and other weather-related hazards in upcoming community workshops.

The Pender County Planning and Community Development Department will accept community feedback at two workshops on Thursday, March 26. Both meetings will start at 5:30 p.m. and will take place in Burgaw at the Commissioners Chambers in the county administration building and in Hampstead at the Topsail High School gymnasium. The Hampstead workshop will focus more on coastal hazards affecting Hampstead and Scotts Hill, but the same information will be offered at both locations.

Both are drop-in meetings, so residents are welcome to come in any time between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. County and hazard-resilience staff will be available to answer questions.

The workshops are a part of Pender County’s Resilient Coastal Communities Program, a state-led initiative by the Division of Coastal Management that provides technical and financial assistance to coastal communities to plan and implement projects to reduce risks from storms and rising sea levels. The feedback will help the county in project planning and prioritization.
