Ocean Fest was founded in 2019 by three surfing buddies who can usually be found riding the waves of Surf City, NC. They joined forces with the goal to share their love for the ocean, celebrate the pure joy of surfing and, most importantly, give something meaningful back to Mother Ocean. Held annually each May, Ocean Fest brings together tens of thousands of festival-goers for a free weekend-long celebration of music, art, surfing and coastal culture.

On Saturday, May 2, this year’s event returns to where it belongs in 2026, back in the streets and back by the ocean in the heart of Surf City. The all-day, family-friendly festival brings the community together from morning to night with a purpose that goes beyond entertainment. From a surf competition and beachside 5K to yoga on the sand and interactive experiences throughout the day, Ocean Fest delivers something for everyone. With more than 50 ecological and sustainability-focused vendors, local art, kids zones, and live art installations, the event continues to build on its mission to create fun while shaping the next generation of stewards of the ocean.

The energy of Ocean Fest carries over to a full concert in the streets, kicking off at 10 a.m. and running through 9 p.m. This year’s lineup blends regional and national talent, featuring Roland Ave., Bubba Love, Oceanic, The Jon Wood Band, Shwayze, and local favorite Signal Fire. Hosted in downtown Surf City near the community center and Surf City Pier, the festival highlights both homegrown talent and touring acts in a setting that feels local and alive.

Event organizers remain stoked about the event’s community impact without negative environmental repercussions. In 2023 the festival welcomed more than 10,000 attendees while producing only six bags of trash! All the rest was recycled or composted through partnerships like Wilmington Compost. That balance of celebration and responsibility defines Ocean Fest’s core message to serve and protect what matters most, the ocean and the community around it.

Ocean Fest is 100 percent free to the public. Attendees are encouraged to support the mission by making a donation through the official website in place of a ticket purchase, helping ensure the event continues for years to come. Registration for the 5K and surf competition is open but limited. Ocean Feast invites you to join the movement on May 2 and be part of a day built on community, music, and protecting what we love.
