WILMINGTON — Robert “Bob” Thorp Taylor, aged 89, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on April 21, 1937, in Nash County, North Carolina, Bob spent his life as a Christian, a family man, a patriot, and a beacon of diligence, community service, and love.

Bob’s career was marked by dedication and excellence. He started his professional journey with Bell South and later contributed his skills and expertise to the Department of Transportation. His career culminated at the State Port Authority, where he retired, having made significant contributions. Not one to rest on his laurels, Bob became a Licensed Certified Electrician and carried an Unlimited Electrical Contractor license for most of his career and dedicated himself to serving New Hanover County as an Inspector.

His commitment to serving others extended beyond his professional life, as evidenced by his invaluable help in the construction of Freedom Baptist Church and Northside Baptist Church. A faithful member and attendee of both congregations, Bob’s faith was reflected in every aspect of his life. He practiced his belief in kindness, selflessness, and the power of community every day.

Bob was a true patriot. Having served in the Air Force at Ramey Air Force Base, as an Aviation Mechanic from 1957 until 1960, when he was honorably discharged. He loved his country, the freedom it stands for, and the flag that represents her. He never missed an opportunity to fly his American flag and has retired many flags over the years. He enjoyed sharing his patriotism with his family and those around him.

Bob was also known for his enduring love and dedication to his family. Married to Patsy Jones Taylor for 59 cherished years, their marriage stood as a testament to unwavering partnership and love. Together, they raised two children and delighted in the lives of their four grandchildren. Bob’s fondest moments included spending quality time with his family, taking peaceful walks along the beach, and sharing stories and laughter with his beloved grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his infant son, Sprout Taylor; his parents, Otha Thomas Taylor and Lizzy Cleo Southerland Taylor; his brother, James Taylor; his sister, Dot Parrish; and his cherished pet, Tiffany.

Bob leaves behind a legacy of love and integrity. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patsy; his daughters, Laurie Taylor Stanley and husband Curtis, and Regina Taylor Holliman and husband Chad, all residing in Wilmington; and his adored grandchildren, Ethan Stanley, Aidan Stanley, Jack Holliman, and Kate Holliman. Bob will also be missed by numerous family and friends who were touched by his generous spirit and infectious warmth.

A graveside service to honor Bob’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project or Folds of Honor reflecting his enduring commitment to service and support for those in need.
