WILMINGTON — Domenico D’Amato, 79, passed away on June 1, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Domenico was born on March 8, 1947, in Sarno, Salerno, Italy, to the late Francesco D’Amato and Clorinda Gragneniello D’Amato.

Domenico lived a life marked by determination, devotion, and a deep commitment to his family. He was proud of his Italian heritage and carried with him the values of hard work, perseverance, and loyalty throughout every chapter of his life. As a young man, he served in the Italian Army and later learned the art of baking, a skill that would help shape the beginning of his career.

On September 22, 1969, Domenico married his beloved wife, Maria D’Amato. Later that same year, in December of 1969, he moved to the United States, beginning a new life filled with opportunity, sacrifice, and dedication. After settling in New Jersey, Domenico worked at Ferrara in New York, where his work ethic and leadership helped him work his way up into management.

Domenico later continued his career as a lead chemical operator with Henkel, where he was respected for his knowledge, reliability, and commitment to doing things the right way. Whether in his work or in his personal life, Domenico approached each responsibility with focus, strength, and pride.

Outside of work, Domenico had a deep interest in science, soccer, and Formula 1 racing. He enjoyed learning, following the things he loved, and staying connected to the passions that brought him joy. Those who knew him will remember his persistence, his determined spirit, and the quiet but steady love he had for his family.

Above all, Domenico’s greatest devotion was to his loved ones. He built a life centered around family, resilience, and care, leaving behind memories that will continue to be treasured by those who knew him best.

He is survived by his wife, Maria D’Amato; daughter, Clorinda Timpanaro; grandchildren, Tyler Timpanaro and Francesca Pagano; brother, Sergio D’Amato; sister, Maria D’Amato; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mario D’Amato, Enzo D’Amato, and Ralph D’Amato; and sisters, Emilia D’Amato, Elena D’Amato, and Maria Rosaria D’Amato.

Domenico’s life was marked by dedication, resilience, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will remain a lasting blessing to his family and friends.
