Susan Weaver Wolle, 96

Susan Weaver Wolle (Quinn McGowen Funeral Home)

WILMINGTON — Susan Weaver Wolle, 96, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Susan spent her early years moving frequently as her father managed five-and-dime stores. One move proved especially meaningful: in Havertown, Pennsylvania, her family settled across the street from the boy who would later become her husband.

Susan cherished her time at George School, where she formed lasting friendships and developed a love of learning that stayed with her throughout her life. She married James in 1951, and together they built a family centered on love, humor, and deep connection. Susan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She raised four children and took great joy in her growing family of eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was known for remembering every birthday and for her patience and good humor during countless hours of board games, especially Monopoly.

A lifelong learner and generous teacher, Susan spent many years tutoring both children and adults. She was an active member of her Methodist church and gave her time and energy to helping others in her community.

Susan’s passions were many. She was a master gardener who took pride in ensuring that something was always in bloom, and she delighted in helping guide her children in their own planting. She had a special fondness for birds, particularly hummingbirds. Music was another constant in her life—she sang in her church choir for many years and was a member of the Harmony Belles in Wilmington. She was also an accomplished seamstress, making clothes for her children when they were young and always ready to hem a dress or replace a button. Her creativity extended to crafts, including the ornaments she made each year. She also loved to travel, sharing memorable trips to France and the United Kingdom with her daughter, and to Italy, Egypt, and beyond with her dear friends Lois, Doris, and Diane.

Susan is survived by her beloved husband, James; her children Barbara, David, and Scott; her eleven grandchildren; and her eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, James Stephen.

Susan will be remembered for her warmth, steadiness, creativity, and the deep care she showed to everyone around her. Her life was marked by quiet generosity, enduring relationships, and a love of family that will continue to be felt for generations.
