WILMINGTON — Wilbur Wayne Willett, 75, of Wilmington, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026
Wayne was born in Wilmington in August of 1950 to Edna and Jesse Willett. He grew up and went to school at Forest Hills, Hanover High, and later at Cape Fear Tech.
He worked his professional life at N.C Equipment Company in Leland, NC and later retired from N. C. State Ports Authority in Wilmington.
He was a heavy equipment mechanic by trade and was always available to help anyone that needed it. Even helping Santa put bicycles together on Christmas Eve back in the day.
His best moments were on the beach as the sun was rising with a surf rod in his hand; and sitting at the sound in the summer with our beach club friends.
He is survived by his dog Jake; kitties, Max and Alli, wife Claudia, brother Gary, sister Rhonda and many, many friends.
He will be surely missed on Earth but will start again in Heaven.
Arrangements for a celebration of life will be made later in the year.
