Richard John Jungquist, 63

WILMINGTON — Richard John Jungquist, born on September 16, 1962, in Corning, New York, passed away on March 20, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 63. He was a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, known for his friendly and dependable nature.

Richard spent his early years in Corning, where he developed a passion for sports and music. He played lacrosse during his high school years and was a dedicated member of the drum and bugle corps, where he showcased his talent on the snare drum. These formative experiences instilled in him a lifelong love for sports, particularly NASCAR, lacrosse, football, and baseball.

Throughout his life, Richard worked in various capacities, including operating forklifts and other jobs that highlighted his strong work ethic and reliability. His colleagues and friends always appreciated his willingness to lend a helping hand.

Richard had a special affinity for animals, especially cats. He took great joy in feeding the neighborhood cats, showing his kindness and compassion for all living creatures.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nora Ziegler and Malcolm Jungquist, and by his brother-in-law, Robert Menihan. Richard is survived by his loving sisters, Pat Cuda (Mark) and Carol Menihan, as well as his cherished nieces and nephews: Karin Mann (with whom he shared a birthday) and her husband Justin, Nicole Piotrowicz (Steve), Joe Cuda (Lina), Pete Cuda (Andrea), Kathy Wilson (Billy), and Kristine Taylor (Andy). He also leaves behind many great-nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his warmth and generosity.

Richard was a man who valued friendship and family above all else. He was known for his unwavering support and loyalty to those he loved. He had a unique way of making everyone feel special and appreciated, often ending phone conversations with the heartfelt words, “I love you.”

Services to honor Richard’s life will be held at a later date. His family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of a man who touched so many hearts with his kindness and sincerity. Richard will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
