Frances “Kay” Register Sanderlin, 74

Frances “Kay” Register Sanderlin (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Frances “Kay” Sanderlin, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, February 8, 2026, following a prolonged illness.

Born to the late William Franklin “Frank” Register and Bertie “Frances” Montford Brown Register, Kay was a woman of deep roots and enduring dedication. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alton L. Sanderlin, and two brothers, William Clifton Brown and Elkana Kent Brown, Jr.

Kay’s professional life was defined by a long and distinguished career in the medical field. She took immense pride in her work, ultimately retiring as a dedicated state employee for TEACCH. Through her example, she instilled a powerful work ethic in her children, teaching them the value of service and perseverance.

In retirement, Kay remained vibrant and connected. She cherished her monthly luncheons with longtime friends and found peace and purpose in her garden. Community service was at the heart of her later years; she was a devoted member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Stamp Defiance Chapter, where she especially enjoyed her time on the Sunshine Committee and with the Book Club. She was very honored to be accepted in the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in The State of North Carolina.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lori Sanderlin (Bob Springle) of Bettie, NC, and April Alfano of Trumbull, CT; her dear sister, Susie Durham (Wayne) of Sunset Beach, NC; and her cherished grandchildren, Caitlin Andromeda Rifenburg of Oak Island, NC, and Madelyn Elizabeth Alfano and Matthew Gregory Alfano of Trumbull, CT. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who brought her great happiness.

The family wishes to express their eternal gratitude to Kay’s friends from TEACCH, the DAR, and her elementary and high school years. Your presence during her struggle—providing transportation to treatments, laughter, and unwavering friendship—meant the world to her and to us.
