WILMINGTON — Martha B. Norris, born on August 4, 1945, in Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on November 29, 2025, in Wilmington, NC. Her life was a testament to creativity, community service, and loving dedication to her family and friends.
At the age of six, Martha moved with her family to Wilmington, where she developed a lifelong love for the beach. She attended New Hanover High School, laying the groundwork for a lifetime of involvement in her community. Martha was a cherished member of the North Carolina Sorosis (NCS) club, where she dedicated herself to promoting volunteerism, improving her community, and fostering new friendships.
Professionally, Martha spent her career at General Electric, where her dedication and work ethic left a lasting impact. In her leisure time, Martha expressed her creativity by making greeting cards using a wide array of mediums, including rubber stamping, ink, embossing, and paper crafts. Her artistic talents brought joy to many and were indicative of her vibrant spirit.
Later in life, Martha became highly involved at the Liberty Commons facility, where she resided. She served as president of the residence council and assisted the recreational director with various events and special projects, touching the lives of those around her with her leadership and compassion.
Martha was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Wade Ball; her stepfather, V.C. Potter; her mother, Blanche Potter; her son, Chris Loughlin; her sisters, Rebecca Ball and Deborah Dramon; and her brother, Mikey Ball. She is survived by her loving daughter, Carey L. Stanley, and her husband, David; her devoted son, Kurt Loughlin, and his wife, Christina; her treasured grandchildren, Jon Stanley (Erin Hudson), Christian Stanley (Abby), Chase Loughlin (Becca Morton), Reese Loughlin, and Trevor Johnson; her sister, Glenda Shelley, and her husband Bob and her brother Bennett Potter, and his wife Pam. Martha also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
A private family service is being planned to celebrate Martha’s remarkable life. While she will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
