WILMINGTON — Charles Cecil Wells of Wilmington, North Carolina, died in the early morning of November 30, 2025, after a period of declining health.
Charles was born in Rose Hill, North Carolina, on September 4, 1936, to Cecil Robinson and Lyda Dixon Wells.
He was a well-respected banker, a passionate golfer, and a servant in his church and community. He appreciated classical music, war documentary movies, sharing tips via email and a perfectly fried spot (for anyone uninitiated: a spot’s a fish). Even though his fishing license came from Sears Roebuck, he enjoyed drifting for flounder, digging clams, and shrimping.
Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn, the three strong children they raised – Lisa (husband, Rene’ Hebacker), Charles (wife, Debby) and Gayle (husband, Greg Grady) – and his sister Marie McGowan. His grandchildren Ally Wells, Grant Wells and Benjamin Hebacker are sure to continue Charles’ legacy of story-telling around every holiday table.
