Vancey Gurganious Dyson (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

ROCKY POINT — Vancey Gurganious Dyson, 85, of Watha, VA, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and loyal friend passed peacefully from her earthly body and stepped on shore, with her sister, Hilda, sitting beside her on September 27, 2025 at Vernell, her niece’s home in Rocky Point, NC.

She was born October 30, 1939 in Pender County, one of 16 children born to Winston Allen and Vancey Vernell Norris Gurganious. In addition to her parents, Vancey was preceded in death by her husband, Harry S Dyson. Vancey is survived by her daughter, Sheila Warner (Warren) and her son, Robert Dyson (Vanessa); grandchildren, Alex Warner, Curtis Warner, Myranda Knowlen (Rylee), Cole Dyson; great grandchildren, Melody and Orion Knowlen; sister, Hilda Smith; many nephews, nieces and extended family.

Vancey grew up on a farm. She worked at Merritt’s Burger house, where she met her husband. She helped in many positions at Wilmington Christian Academy, worked as a cashier, clerk and security for the Family Dollar. She was a homemaker and prayer warrior.

She and her sister, Hilda, would visit shut ins and take food, while calling it “Soups for Jesus”. Vancey made sure that everyone felt special, that they were loved and that they were “Her Family”.

She logged on many hours in her last years, riding shotgun along side of her daughter, working in her business, Primerica. She made sure she had her phone handy for that phone call from her special fellow, on the west coast. She will surely be missed. She had a special way about her.

Vancey was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and served in the Bus Ministry with her late husband, Harry, for thirty-one years. She served in home and foreign missions. She then attended Greenpond Baptist Church in Climax, Va,
