LELAND — JoAnn Foy Johnston, a beloved resident of Leland, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1951, in Wilmington, she blessed the world with her kindness and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew her.
JoAnn dedicated many years to nurturing young minds as a teacher’s aide with the Brunswick County School System. Her gentle spirit and unwavering patience made her a cherished mentor to countless students, and her influence will continue to resonate with them for years to come.
A woman of joyful spirit, JoAnn found immense joy in singing Karaoke and was often the heart of any gathering with her vibrant voice. She embraced life’s adventures, particularly loving the serenity of ocean cruises and the tranquility of being outdoors. Whether relaxing by the pool or exploring nature, she cherished every moment under the open sky.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Foy and Mary Strayhorn Foy; her husband, Bobby Earl Johnston; her son, Michael Johnston; and her brother, Larry Vaughn. She is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly Johnston of Leland, who carries forward her mother’s legacy of love and kindness. JoAnn also leaves behind her cherished pets, Ellamae, Rags, and Mollie, who brought her great comfort and joy.
