OCEAN ISLE BEACH — Anne Smith Hash, 86, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025.
Anne was born on May 19, 1938 to Joseph Paul and Anne Barry Smith in Barberton, OH. After Anne graduated from Barberton High School in 1956, she went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1960 and Family Nurse Practitioner certification in 1980 and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner certification in 1977 from The Ohio State University. Anne was one of the first cohorts of nurse practitioners, playing a pioneering role in advancing the profession for future generations. Her passion for education led her to complete a Master of Science in Nursing degree in 1987 at the University of Dubuque. Anne enjoyed a distinguished career as an OB/GYN nurse, a college-level nursing instructor, and later as the office manager and nurse of her husband’s cardiology practice. She was a proud member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Amy Elizabeth Hauser. She is survived by her husband and love of her life, Dr. Volney Wade Hash, Jr. of Ocean Isle Beach, her children, David Hauser (Dina) of San Jose, CA; Dann Hauser of Medford, OR and Kristina Hash (Sarah Guerry) of Morgantown, WV; her step-children, David Hash (Debra) of Dubuque, IA; and Laura Koberg (Kristopher) of Cedar Rapids, IA; her grandchildren, Emily Hauser of Ukiah, CA; Blake Hauser of Vancouver, WA; Morgan Kroeze (Ryan) of Iowa City, IA; Andrew Hauser of Medford, OR; Conner Koberg of Miami Beach, FL; Cade Koberg of Gilbert, AZ; Kelsey Koberg of Davenport, IA; Ava Hash of Iowa City, IA; Brynna Hash of Iowa City, IA; Jenna Hauser of San Jose, CA; Alyssa Guerry of Morgantown, WV; and Ronin and Rigel Waring of Wilmington, NC; her sister-in-law, Martha Burris (Stanley) of Southport, NC; and her lifelong best friend, Sheila Smith of Columbus, OH.
Anne’s talents extended far beyond her nursing career. She was a gifted artist and craftsperson, excelling in painting, pottery, knitting, doll making, and quilting. She was a loyal Ohio State Buckeyes fan who stayed steadfast until witnessing her team secure the National College Football Championship. A devoted dog lover, Anne raised and adored her champion Weimaraners throughout her life. She will be remembered for her enduring beauty, quick wit, boundless creativity, dedication to her family, and unwavering loyalty as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and dog mom.
