WILMINGTON — Joshua Daniel Whitener, born on July 9, 1984, in Reidsville, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 40 on December 30, 2024, in Wilmington, North Carolina.
A dedicated and loving husband, father, son, and friend, Joshua’s life was an inspiring testament to hard work, love, and devotion.
Affiliated with Myatt Landscaping and Construction in Wilmington, Joshua was known for his unparalleled work ethic and commitment to his craft. He was a man who poured his heart into everything he did, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Joshua was also an ardent lover of the beach, finding peace and joy in the soothing rhythm of the waves. He cherished moments spent with his family by the shore, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
A faithful member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, Joshua was devoted to his community and faith, embodying Christian values in his daily life. He was a beacon of kindness and generosity, touching the lives of many around him.
Preceded in death by his father, James Leroy Whitener, Jr., Joshua leaves behind a legacy of love through his surviving family: his beloved wife, Amy Whitener; his two wonderful daughters, Sadie and Ruthie Whitener; his devoted mother, Billie Gail Martin Whitener of Reidsville, NC; and his brother, Christopher Eric Whitener of West Virginia. His circle of friends and extended family mourns the loss of a man who was truly loved by many.
A celebration of Joshua’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, with Pastor Paul Waters officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of visitation one hour prior to the service at the church, to share memories and offer support to one another.
