WILMINGTON — Elizabeth Irene Hyde, lovingly known as Liz to those closest to her, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center in Wilmington, NC.

Born on May 18, 1937, in Carrollton, Ohio, Elizabeth was the youngest child of Samuel Henry and Ruth Pauline (McClain) Brackin. Her parents and her five siblings predeceased her.

Elizabeth dedicated her life to serving others with compassion and grace. As a Nurse’s Aide, she provided care and comfort for 24 years at Weirton General Hospital and Weirton Medical Center in Weirton, WV. Her nurturing spirit and kindness left a lasting impact on countless patients and colleagues alike.

In retirement, Elizabeth and her husband embraced life’s adventures, traveling, and relishing time spent with their family. Her strong faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her every step. She was deeply involved in church communities wherever she lived, forming meaningful connections and sharing her unwavering belief in God’s love.

After moving to Pittsburgh, PA, in 1999, Elizabeth embraced her role as the Hospitality Coordinator for the Round Table Ministry at Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park, where her warm smile and generous spirit welcomed all who crossed her path. When she and her husband relocated to Wilmington, NC, in 2009, Elizabeth became an active member of Grace United Methodist Church before transferring her membership to Pine Valley Methodist Church, where she worshipped alongside her family.

Elizabeth was also a proud member of PEO Chapter BW in Wilmington, NC, where she enjoyed being a part of the organization and spending time with the lovely ladies of the group.

Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Enoch Richard (Dick) Hyde, and their three children: Susan Bland of Alexandria, VA, Richard Hyde (Debbie) of Dunkirk, MD, and Melanie Sphar (Doug) of Wilmington, NC. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Danielle Hicks (Chris), Amanda Hyde, and Christina Hyde.

Elizabeth’s legacy is one of faith, family, and love. She leaves behind countless friends who were blessed by her light.

A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held at Pine Valley Methodist Church in Wilmington, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Pine Valley Methodist Church in Elizabeth’s honor.
