WILMINGTON — Yvonne Drake Glossop, passed away on October 4, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Yvonne was born on October 1, 1938, in Surrey in the United Kingdom, to the late Harry and Mae Drake. In 1958, she married Roy
Glossop and together they raised three sons; Stephen, Gary, and David. Besides being a devoted mother, Yvonne worked as a secretary and later as an assistant for an interior decorator.
After her marriage ended, Yvonne met Raelene Breakbill, beginning a loving partnership that would span 43 years. Together, they built a beautiful home and a life filled with love, adventure, and constant companionship. They lived in Franklin, North Carolina, before eventually moving to Leland, North Carolina to be closer to family.
Yvonne found joy in the simple things in life. She loved painting, gardening, taking walks, hiking and appreciating all the beauty and
peacefulness the outdoors offers. She and Raelene enjoyed countless travels taking them around the world and many returns to her beloved England. She was a devoted animal lover and shared her home with many precious dogs and cats who are waiting at the Rainbow Bridge. Among them, her favorite was Suzie Q, a white pit bull/labrador who held a special place in her heart.
Yvonne will be lovingly remembered by her partner of 43 years, Raelene Breakbill; her sons, Gary Glossop (Lisa) of Winnabow, North Carolina and David Glossop (Susan) of Navarre, Florida; her grandchildren Christopher Glossop (Emily), Thomas Glossop, and Preston Hegbom; one great granddaughter, Sophia Glossop; her beloved cousin, Mandy Newman, and her niece and nephews Jane Nichols (Richard), Mark Hawkins (Belinda) and Andy Hawkins.
Yvonne had many lifelong friends and she cherished each one of them.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mae Drake, her eldest son, Stephen Glossop and her sister, Hazel Hawkins.
Yvonne’s life was defined by the people and animals she loved, the places she called home, and the many simple moments that brought her happiness. She leaves behind family and friends who will remember her with love and who will carry the memories of her kindness, companionship, and unique spirit in their hearts.
Family and friends will gather at a later date for a remembrance of Yvonne in the Smoky Mountains, a special place where they can come together to celebrate her life and the beauty she enjoyed.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Yvonne’s memory are encouraged to consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in her honor.
