Mohamed Jaziri, 74

Mohamed Jaziri (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Mohamed Jaziri, loving father, devoted educator, and passionate coach, left this world after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at the age of 74.

Born in La Marsa, Tunisia, to Ali and Meherzia Jaziri, Mohamed boldly struck out on his own for Europe as just a teenager, where he discovered his passion for teaching and language. He graduated with language degrees from the prestigious Sorbonne Universite in Paris before moving to the United States to build his career and family.

An athlete and an academic, his 35 year career as educator and soccer coach was distinguished by countless awards and recognitions, including being a Fulbright Scholar and a Men’s 4A NC State Champion Coach. The lives he touched and guided as a teacher and coach are innumerable.

A lifelong, avid fisherman since his childhood on the Mediterranean, Mohamed spent his retirement years fishing in the coastal waters around Wilmington. He also was a devoted tennis player, enjoying year-round matches with his many friends. More than anything else, he cherished time with his grandchildren, children, partner, and friends – cooking, telling stories, sharing meals and laughing.

By far his greatest achievement was being an incredible father to his four sons and daughter. Always leading by example, Mohamed epitomized living with love, integrity, and gratitude. His motto, “strong and steady, honest, and kind”, was a guiding principle for his family. These priceless lessons remain his most important and enduring legacy.

Mohamed is survived by his loving partner, Christine Murphy, his children, Chadley (Hailey), Farris, Kammel (Amy), Sami (Corbett), and Alia (Luke), as well as his numerous grandchildren.

A celebration of life gathering will be held by the family at a later date.
