Carolyn Gail Walker, 74

WILMINGTON — Carolyn “Gail” Walker, at the age of 74, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, following a valiant struggle with health issues.

She was born in Edgecombe County, NC on November 12, 1950, to her parents, Thelma and Millard Walker. She was an only child and very much a “Daddy’s Girl”.

Gail attended NC State where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. She was a beloved social worker, who touched many lives throughout her 28 years of service, which included California, Nevada and North Carolina. Those who had the honor of knowing Gail will always fondly remember her heartfelt efforts in caring for countless children and families, often selflessly utilizing her own resources. As importantly, Gail also loved and rescued countless animals, including her own two special dogs, Boomer and Beau.

Those who knew her best appreciated her truthful words and opinions regardless of her unfiltered nature. And lest we forget, her unique fondness for NC State, hot dogs and diet coke.

Sincere appreciation and gratitude to the numerous staff at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center particularly the EMS, social work and ICU staff members.

Gratitude is also extended to friends, neighbors, and caregivers, notably Ashley and Dee.

At Gail’s request, no memorial service will be held. Her ashes will be spread at her favorite place in life, Donner Lake, CA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Foster Pantry, Inc., whose mission is to ease the transitions of children in foster care by cultivating community support and equipping families and children, or to the ASPCA, which works nationwide to rescue animals from abuse.

Online condolences may be made here.
