WILMINGTON — Larry Woodrow Watkins, Sr., age 71, passed peacefully from his earthly life Saturday, June 8, 2024 at home. He was affectionally known as “Uncle Woody” by both family and friends.
He was born March 2, 1953 in Wilmington, the youngest of nine children born to Joseph Marion Watkins and Annie Blanton Watkins. In addition to his parents, Woody was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaDonna Sue Watkins; and four brothers.
Woody is survived by his sons, Larry W. “Woody” Watkins, Jr. and Joshua Allen Watkins; brother, Richard Watkins; sisters, Sylvia Head (Robert), Faye Rhodes (Stacy), and Peggy Taylor; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all who dearly loved “Uncle Woody”.
Woody attended Fellowship Baptist Church where he was baptized in 2009, the year after his beloved Sue went to Glory.
Woody was an extra special husband, daddy, Uncle Woody, and loyal friend to many. He was thoughtful, kindhearted, and a caring gentleman. Always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. In years past he enjoyed attending Go Cart races with his boys. The presence of such a wonderful, generous man will surely be missed.
