SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — The students from Cape Fear Community College’s Commercial, Fine, and Performing Arts Department will stage “Machinal” by Sophie Treadwell this month.
Students enrolled in the program oversee two shows a year, one in fall and another in spring, as part of their studies. Along with faculty, they will direct, design, and perform “Machinal” from Nov. 12-14 and 19-21 at 7 p.m. in the Studio Theatre, located at the rear of the Wilson Center on Hanover Street.
The play is set in the 1920s and follows a young woman trapped by society’s expectations and limited choices available while navigating a career, family life, marriage, and childbirth. Inspired by the true-crime trial of Ruth Snyder, the play examines how an industrial, capitalist society can provoke self-destruction.
Tickets can be purchased online at WilsonCenterTickets.com and are $15 for the general public, $12 for CFCC faculty and staff, and $6 for students and children.
