HAMPSTEAD — Iris Fallon Maley, age 61, of Hampstead, beloved mother, daughter, GiGi, sister, and friend, passed from her earthly life at Novant Health New Hanover on Friday, March 15, 2024, surrounded by family and is now with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Iris was born at Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County, California, on December 19, 1962. She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Anthony Fallon, Jr.; brother, Francis Anthony “Tony” Fallon III; and sisters, Donna Blankenship and Margaret “Terry” Fallon.
Iris is survived by her mother, Clara Batson Fallon; son, Russell Maley (Lauren); daughter, Brittany Davis (Matt); grandchildren, Nathan Maley and Trent Maley; sister, Julie Fallon; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly.
In her free time, Iris enjoyed working outdoors at her home and the home of many of her friends and family doing yard work and gardening. For any holiday family gatherings, she loved coordinating and ensuring everything was well taken care of. Iris was also the expert on the grill and clam bakes were one of her favorites. Iris enjoyed trips with the girls in the family each summer to Myrtle Beach and also enjoyed outings with her close friends. Everyone who knew Iris knew she was a devoted Tar Heels basketball fan. Her doctors at Duke never gave her a hard time about wearing her Carolina attire to her appointments. Iris was filled with kindness, compassion, and love and was always willing to help anyone in need.
The family would like to thank the lung transplant team at Duke Medical Center, who gave her an opportunity 16 years ago for a new set of lungs. They would also like to thank the nurses and nurse aides on the 10th floor at Novant Health New Hanover for the care they provided Iris over the last four months.
Shared memories and condolences may be sent to the family here.
