WILMINGTON — As the community gears up for another Halloween celebration, the Wilmington Fire Department urges residents to stay safe.

On Halloween, the Wilmington Fire Department will welcome visitors at their stations between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to give out sweet treats. Should a station be unmanned due to an emergency or call, residents are free to stick around and wait or circle back to their local station.

In the meantime, the WFD is also urging residents to stay safe this Halloween season. Families decorating their homes are asked to use battery-operated candles rather than open flames and to keep flammable objects away from something that could make them catch fire.

Trick-or-treaters are asked to carry flashlights or glow sticks and wear reflective clothing for visibility at night, and are urged to stick to sidewalks and crosswalks. The WFD also encourages groups to stick together and watch out for streets and driveways. Drivers are asked to slow down and stay alert.
