Rep. Frank Iler wins Outstanding Legislator Award

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. — The North Carolina Beach, Inlet and Waterway Association has granted Rep. Frank Iler (R-Brunswick) the Outstanding Legislator Award.

Iler was presented the award by the NCBIWA Chairman Bobby Outten during the organization’s 29th Annual Conference in Wilmington. The award is given to a legislator who advances policy preserving the state’s coastal communities, beaches, inlets, and water channels.

“Coastal issues like dredging, beach renourishment and protecting our seafood industry are extremely important to me,” Iler said in a statement. “I was surprised by this award, and I’m honored and grateful to receive it.”

The press release didn’t specify a certain legislative item or action from Iler as a reason for him receiving the award.

In a candidate questionnaire submitted to Port City Daily Iler noted he has spent over a decade fighting for clean water in the area, including championing legislation to hold polluters financially responsible for pollution that gets into public water systems.

Prior to his time in office, Iler was a cost accountant and budget supervisor in the textile industry, owned a Bojangles franchise, and held various sales and marketing positions. His career in politics has included serving as chairman of the Brunswick County Republican Party and precinct chairman of the 7th Congressional District Republican Party.
