WILMINGTON — Jimmie Douglas O’Daniell, Sr., of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away on March 18, 2024, at the age of 87. He was born on May 28, 1936, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Jim dedicated his life to serving others, starting his career with twenty years of honorable service in the United States Air Force, retiring as Chief Master Sergeant (E9) at Fort Fisher AFS. He went on to excel as the Director of Communications and Maintenance for Saudi Arabian Airlines. His work ethic and leadership were truly inspiring to all who knew him.
Throughout his life, Jim was actively involved in various organizations, including being a member of the Wilmington Lodge 319 A. F. & A. M., the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Wilmington, Orient of North Carolina, and the Arab Shrine Club. He also served as President of the Club and was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps. Additionally, he worked as a real estate agent in the Wilmington area and was a former deacon at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.
His passions were fishing and golf but his greatest enjoyment came from watching sports and discussing politics with his best friend Ken Smith.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jean Williams O’Daniell; his son, Jimmie D O’Daniell, Jr., and daughter, Julie O’Daniell Powell; his grandson, C. J. Powell; and his sisters, Mary Mitchell and Shirley Parks.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Service, with Reverend Dondi Costin officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
