Janice Wilson Carmichael, 75

WILMINGTON — Janice Wilson Carmichael died peacefully at home on February 4, 2023, a few weeks before her 76th birthday, surrounded by close family members. A graduate of New Hanover High School, she had deep roots in Wilmington, NC, where she was born and lived for 20 years and visited often during her lifetime.

She is predeceased by her father, Howard Franklin Wilson, and her mother, Edna Johnson Wilson. She leaves behind her cherished son Chandler Carmichael of Raleigh, her devoted sister Sondra Wilson of Greenville, SC, her special nephew and great nephew, Brett and Britton Rollyson of Greenville , and many close cousins and their families.

Janice was a passionate and tireless advocate for domestic violence victims. She served as Director of Victims Services for the state of North Carolina for two decades and was twice elected to the National Association of Crime Victim Compensation Board before retiring in 2017. In her early career Janice owned and managed an award-winning dance-twirl academy in Cary, NC, and served as majorette coach for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill marching band.

The family is indebted to the myriad of nurses, doctors and aids who cared for Janice during her five-year illness, and for the people in her life who were always there to offer encouragement and support.

The family welcomes you to join them in a relaxed gathering to remember Janice on Sunday, February 12 in the family home at 2205 Pastille Lane, from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please give to your charity of choice.
