WILMINGTON — Daniel “Dan” Geddie, 69, died Monday, July 19, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare after a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 26, 1951, in Kinston, the son of the late John McPhail (Mac) Geddie and Audrey Flake Geddie.
Dan is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beth King Geddie. He is also survived by his daughters, Amy Geddie (Shawn Hernandez) of Rockville, Md., and Melissa Geddie (Mike Kagey) of Arlington, Mass.; as well as grandsons, Nathan and Sam Kagey. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, John Geddie (Jessiebeth); brother-in-law, Billy King (Elizabeth); niece, Elizabeth Beard; and nephew, Hugh Geddie.
A lifelong resident of Wilmington, Dan graduated from UNC with a business degree and later returned to school to become a certified public accountant. He spent 28 years working at UNCW and retired as the director of financial reporting. He loved watching any college basketball, but especially rooting for the Tar Heels and Seahawks. He also enjoyed spending days at the Hanover Seaside Club and reading books about military history, especially the Civil War.
The family would like to thank the staff at Home Instead, especially his primary caregiver Kristi Parrish; as well as the staff at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center; and Michelle Zumbro, DPT at Bodies in Balance. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to his longtime friends Ty Rowell and Ron Sizemore.
Per Dan’s request, there will be no memorial service.
