WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — William Joseph O’Shea, 91, peacefully passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021.

William was born Feb. 17, 1930, in New York City to Michael Joseph O’Shea and Mary Agnes Benjamin O’Shea.

William graduated from Iona College in 1951. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from July 10, 1951, to June 11, 1954. He graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1967 with a Juris Doctorate Degree. He served the U.S. Treasury Department Bureau of Customs as a customs agent and was later appointed district director of Customs in North Carolina. William ultimately retired Dec. 3, 1996, after three years of service as the officer in charge of U.S. Customs in Nassau, Bahamas. He was also a retired commander from the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Michael O’Shea.

William is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathy Pei O’Shea of Wrightsville Beach; daughters, Joanne O’Shea Campbell, and her husband, Mike Campbell, of Beaufort, Sheila O’Shea Schwartz, and her husband, Barry Schwartz, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Karen Hu Vegas, and her husband, Martin Vegas, of Danville, California; and 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation in memory of William.
